Find the source of damage to carpets and textiles

Carpet beetle larvae, sometimes called woolly bears, can damage natural-fibre materials. Activity may be found beneath furniture, around carpet edges or among stored textiles. Adult beetles alone do not tell us the extent of the problem.

Heat treatment suitability depends on the pest, the property and the materials present. We assess the situation, explain preparation and item-protection limits, and advise whether monitoring or additional measures may be needed.

Signs worth checking

  • Small hairy larvae or their shed skins near carpet edges
  • Irregular damage to wool carpets, clothing or other natural fibres
  • Small adult beetles around windows or indoor textiles

These signs are not a diagnosis. Contact us to discuss identification before arranging treatment.

Before your treatment

Make a note of where damage or larvae were found, and keep a clear photograph or safely contained sample if possible. Avoid moving suspected textiles between rooms. We will advise on access beneath furniture and protection of delicate belongings.

Typical heat treatments take 3–6 hours; your schedule and safe re-entry time will be confirmed for your property. Follow your technician’s pest-specific instructions.

Aftercare & prevention

Thorough cleaning of lint, hair and debris in undisturbed areas is important. Check stored textiles and follow advice on possible sources and entry points. Monitoring and further measures may be needed to prevent renewed activity.

Ask us about any applicable treatment terms before booking. The bed bug guarantee should not be assumed to cover a different pest.

Common questions

Do carpet beetles bite people?

Carpet beetles do not bite, although larval hairs can irritate some people’s skin. Skin symptoms alone cannot confirm the pest; seek medical advice for concerning reactions.

Can heat repair damaged carpets?

No. Treatment addresses pest activity, not existing fabric damage. We will discuss affected materials and the practical limits of treatment before work begins.
